US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has urged Middle Eastern countries to use their influence over regional actors to enable the Gaza conflict to be contained and prevent "an endless cycle of violence".
Blinken made such a statement during his week-long trip with the aim of calming tensions.
"We want to make sure that states are using their relationships with some of the actors that may be involved to make sure that we don't have a wider spread of the conflict ," he said.
The US official's comments came after France's foreign minister told her Iranian counterpart that Iran must stop "destabilizing acts" that could fuel a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Blinken, who will also visit Arab states and Israel, said he will look at what can be done to maximize the protection of civilians in Gaza and increase humanitarian aid deliveries.
"Many Palestinians have been killed, especially children ," said Blinken.
