How is artificial intelligence being used by Trump and Biden in the US

In this year's presidential campaign in the United States, candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump are using artificial intelligence to attract voters. As VOA correspondent Scott Stearns reports, this is one of the biggest changes in the way candidates' campaign teams are communicating to a segment of the American electorate.

For candidate campaign teams, the most cost-effective way to reach more voters is through the use of artificial intelligence, one of the biggest changes in American politics this year.

"The models are improving very quickly. It seems like every week a new model comes out that is significantly better than the previous model," says Scott Babwah Brennen from the University of North Carolina.

These models are powerful tools for national and local campaign teams, says political analyst Betsy Hoover.

“Think about campaign teams that don't have digital content creation staff. For example, AI programs enable them to have just one person who can handle the job if they want. Artificial intelligence can play a big role in the campaign of a candidate running against a rival with much better experience and financial standing,” she says.

Ms. Hoover's firm invests in technology development for the Democratic Party and left-wing causes. She says that using technology "in the right way" is very important.

"I don't know exactly what standards the Republican candidates' campaign teams have, but I do know that the Democrats have high standards for how this new technology will be used. So I'm not really worried that we're going to be behind if the use of artificial intelligence is going to be ethical and responsible," she says.

In 2016, Mr. Trump used an unprecedented level of social media advertising with messages tailored to each voter in each state, working with the British data collection and processing firm, Cambridge Analytica.

Brad Parscale was Mr. Trump's senior campaign adviser on data analytics and digital operations.

His firm, Campaign Nucleus, manages the website of Mr. Trump's campaign team this year.

Mr Parscale told the Conservative FreedomFest conference earlier this year that artificial intelligence could analyze voter data to create mass text and email ads for each voter and help absentee ballots. .

"Within a few years, the candidate may be able to campaign on mobile, issue press releases, send emails, fundraise, all powered by artificial intelligence," says Mr. Parscale.

But there are concerns about the use of artificial intelligence. A survey by the American Press Institute and the Associated Press news agency shows that 42 percent of American voters are worried that the media will use artificial intelligence to create reports during the campaign for this year's elections./VOA
