The World Economic Forum 2026 begins on Monday. In Davos, heads of state and government, business leaders and NGOs will discuss global security, the economy and climate issues until the end of the week...
The Alpengold Hotel in Davos is nestled in a fir forest overlooking Lake Davos. US President Donald Trump is likely to stay here again during the World Economic Forum.
From the hotel, there is a breathtaking view of the snow-capped valley, the lake, a helicopter landing pad, and an anti-aircraft cannon belonging to the Swiss Army.
The “35 mm Flab Kan 63/90” is a Swiss-made weapon. Developed in the 1950s, it is still in use today by more than 30 countries.
Also known as the "Oerlikon 35mm twin cannon", it is used as a last resort if an unauthorized aircraft gets too close to the World Economic Forum. Its other purpose is deterrence.

The cannon at the helipad at the entrance to Davos is not the only one. On the other side of Europe's highest town, in Davos Frauenkirch, the military has created another helicopter landing pad, used mainly by the air force and police.
Here too, the metal barrels of twin cannons are pointed skyward, protecting the airport field and the World Economic Forum (WEF) against potential aerial attackers.
