There will be "no timetable" set for when Sir Keir Starmer will resign. The statement was made by David Lammy, who told Sky News that the prime minister is committed to the job and will not resign.
The deputy prime minister then said: "Let me be very clear. Keir Starmer remains the most resilient person I have ever known in my life. I spoke to him twice yesterday. He has a strong character and experience in combat. There will be no deadline for when he will leave. What exists is for us to continue with the business of government. I am very clear about that."
"There is no contest at the moment. What exists is his determination to deliver for the British people, to accelerate the pace over the coming months. There is a lot to do ," Lammy added.
Starmer's removal was requested by 92 Labour Party MPs, but it appears that their request has been answered by Lammy.
