Two US fighter jets collided in mid-air during an air show in the US, causing a fire and the immediate cessation of activity. The incident occurred on Sunday, during the second and final day of the "Gunfighter Skies" show, near Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.
The EA-18G aircraft were conducting an aerial demonstration at the time of the crash, according to a U.S. Navy spokesman. All four crew members ejected safely and are in stable condition, authorities said. It was not immediately clear if any injuries were reported.
A fire broke out after the collision and the military base was temporarily closed, while the rest of the air show was canceled. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
"The individuals involved in the incident are in stable condition," said a statement released by the Mountain Home Air Force Base Gunfighters on social media.
A Navy spokesman said the crew was undergoing medical checks. The EA-18G Growler aircraft belonged to a specialized electronic attack squadron from Washington state. According to the US Navy, each of these aircraft costs about $67 million.
Kim Sykes from the organization "Silver Wings of Idaho", which helped organize the event, told local media outlet CBS that no one at the military base was injured.
The "Gunfighter Skies" air show was last held in 2018, when a pilot lost his life in an accident.
