"Ukraine will not receive an invitation to the NATO summit in Vilnius, which will be held next month in July," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced at a press conference in Brussels.
"We discussed the action plan for Ukraine. This is a question that was raised at the ministerial meeting in Oslo", he emphasized.
According to Stoltenberg, there are three important points regarding Ukraine, the country's approach to NATO in a practical dimension. This means continued support and assistance for the country in the transition from Soviet standards to NATO doctrine and equipment; further is the political path, the finalization of the agreement on the creation of the Ukraine-NATO Council. The third point is Ukraine's membership in the EU.
"At the moment, we will not discuss Ukraine's invitation to join NATO during the Vilnius summit. But we believe that Ukraine should become its member. We will bring this process closer, we are sure that we can find a consensus in Vilnius on how to bring the country closer to the North Atlantic alliance", added Stoltenberg.
