Dozens of people lost their lives in an Israeli attack on a school in Gaza City.
The Israeli army confirmed the attack, specifying that it hit a structure used as a terrorist hideout by Hamas, writes Sky News.
The spokesman of the Gaza Civil Defense agency, Mahmoud Bassal, said that the attack caused between 90-100 dead and dozens wounded.
He described the attack as a "brutal massacre", saying that among the victims were burnt bodies. According to this source, the school was targeted 3 times and was home to "displaced Palestinians".
In a note posted on Telegram, the Israeli military wrote that the air force "accurately struck Hamas terrorists operating inside a control and command center at the Al-Tabai'een school and located near the mosque in Daraj Tuffah, which used as a shelter by the residents of Gaza City".
"The center was used as a hideout for terrorists and Hamas commanders. From there, numerous attacks against the Israeli army and the State of Israel were planned," the IDF points out.
The attack comes at the height of indirect negotiations to end the devastating war in Gaza. Israel responded to the United States' offer and announced that on August 15 it will send mediators to Cairo to agree on the details of the Gaza ceasefire framework.
For the Israeli government, it is "important to quickly reach " an agreement on the release of the hostages, but they have less hope of reaching a cease-fire agreement in the Gaza Strip, after the appointment of Yahya Sinar as the leader of the militant group Hamas.
