Heavy rains have caused flooding in northern Italy. The storms have affected the Lombardy region, Milan and Venice. Several regions have been put under red alert, with Veneto being the most at risk.
But Emilia Romagna, Friuli Venezia Gulia, Liguria, Lombardy and Trentino Alto Adige are also at risk of flooding. Damage is also reported in Tuscany. In Versilia, the tornado tore off the roofs of several houses, trees and several electrical substations were engulfed in flames.
Transport lines in Milan and exits of metro stations have been flooded, closing some of them. Councilor Granelli reported that Seveso's levels are still very high, so flooding is expected to last for several hours. The Via Negrotto and Via Rubicone underpasses have been flooded, but are expected to reopen soon, Corriere reports.
Lambro Park communities were evacuated as a precaution, beginning with the Don Mazzi Exodus.
"At the site, along with councilor Granelli, there were the Ministry of Interior teams that opened the lids of the wells immediately before the flood, the Local Police and Amsa. According to the forecasts, the floods will last several hours, we recommend staying at home", the mayor of Municipality 9, Stefano Indovino, wrote in a post.
The Civil Protection of Lombardy has communicated to residents in the areas affected by the flooding of Seveso - through text messages and automatic mobile phone calls to those registered in the service - to avoid flooded areas and to take the routine measures in these cases: do not go out during floods, avoid elevators, limit the use of mobile phones to keep lines free and facilitate any rescue operations, keep weather apps up to date. Meanwhile, the weather forecast shows a trend towards improving rainfall starting from the western sectors.
