UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said more than 420 children are killed or injured in Gaza every day.
"It's a number that should shake each of us to the core," Russell said, addressing the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East. Save the Children reported yesterday that some 3,200 children were killed in Gaza in just three weeks. This exceeds the number of children killed annually in conflict zones in the world since 2019, foreign media write.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini told the Security Council that nearly 70% of those reported killed were children and women. This cannot be collateral damage, Lazzarini said, stressing that there must be strict compliance with international humanitarian law.
