Ukraine is putting the ultra-luxury ship “Royal Romance” up for auction. The seized yacht is expected to bring in millions of dollars for the state coffers...
One of the world’s most impressive superyachts, the Royal Romance, is set to change hands as Ukraine’s Asset Recovery and Management Service continues its auction, aiming to boost state revenues. The luxury vessel, worth an estimated $200 million, was previously owned by Viktor Medvedevichuk, a figure with close ties to the Russian leadership. It was seized in March 2022 in Croatian territorial waters, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and has now been placed under Ukrainian control.
The Dutch company Troostwijk Auctions has taken over the sale process, an interesting choice, as the company specializes mainly in industrial equipment and not in ultra-luxury vessels of such size and value.
The venture is considered particularly difficult, as the challenge is not only the technical execution of the sale, but also attracting buyers with the ability to invest hundreds of millions of dollars.
"Royal Romance" stands out not only for its value, but also for its features. With a length of 92 meters, six levels and many floors, it offers infrastructures reminiscent of a luxury hotel with high standards. Inside, there are dozens of accommodation spaces, with luxurious cabins designed to accommodate guests in comfort, while there is no shortage of wellness facilities, such as a spa, gym and treatment room.
Also striking is the large swimming pool with a waterfall at the back of the boat, as well as the fully equipped cinema, elements that underline its character as a "floating palace". So far, the auction date and starting price have not been announced. However, it is certain that the interest will be international and that the final price will be very high.
For Ukraine, the sale of the Royal Romance is not only a financial incentive, but also a symbolic step towards exploiting assets linked to individuals in the Russian circle of influence.
