'Plunged into darkness and listening to music', Pakistani

"Passengers of the ill-fated Titan submarine probably spent their last moments in total darkness and listening to their favorite music," according to Christine, wife of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood.

Christine revealed to the New York Times how the family's obsession with the wreck of the Titanic led to their decision to make the fateful voyage.

Their interest began after visiting a Titanic exhibit in Singapore in 2012 and was further fueled by a trip to Greenland in 2019, where they were intrigued by the transformation of the glaciers.

She says the family came across an OceanGate ad offering trips to the wreck. Initially, Christine was going to accompany her billionaire husband on the trip, but finally their 19-year-old son Suleman went instead.

Despite the high cost of travel, the passenger experience on the Polar Prince, the mother ship, leading up to the launch of the submarine was anything but luxurious. They slept in cramped rooms with bunk beds, ate meals and attended double meetings from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Christine reported that most of the meetings focused on submarine safety. He compared it to sitting in an airplane without understanding how the engine works. Christine reported that passengers were given safety lessons, including information on depressurization.

Passengers were told from the start that the submarine's lights would be turned off to save battery power, but they would be able to keep an eye out for bright creatures in the sea. They were also told, according to Christine, to listen to their favorite songs.
