Austria intends to join the Sky Shield air defense program as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
"The threat situation has increased tremendously due to Russia's aggressive war in Ukraine. Therefore, Austria will join the European Sky Shield air defense initiative", said the Austrian Foreign Minister, Karl Nehammer.
Nehammer has assured that this program will provide the necessary airspace protection, which effectively prevents danger.
The date of Austria's entry into this program is not yet clear because "the criteria for how Austria can participate are currently being discussed," the minister said on his Twitter account, where he also emphasized that "Austria's neutrality will not to touch".
Klaudia Tanner, Austrian Minister of Defense, emphasized, according to the Austrian network ORF, that "this is a historic moment in the history of defense policy".
The two ministers have pointed out the importance of their country's inclusion in the "Shield of the Sky" program and have reiterated their commitment to cooperation:

This European air defense program for the territory, inspired by the model of the United States of America, was promoted by Germany after learning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and was born with the aim of closing the gaps in Europe's defensive shield integrated into the defense system of NATO. This initiative serves as a defense against missiles launched by Russia.
With the aim of strengthening northern Europe, countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, among others, have participated since last October.
Denmark and Sweden joined this project last February.
