"Rumors are fake news," Trump reacts again about his health

Sometimes it seems like not an hour goes by without hearing from US President Donald Trump. So when he didn't show up for a day, then two, then three, rumors about his health began circulating online.

Despite photos released over the weekend showing the US president on his golf course, rumors on social media continued to circulate rapidly. Trump was directly asked about the issue on Tuesday, in his first public appearance in a week.

"Did you hear over the weekend that you had died?" asked Fox News reporter Peter Ducey.

"No," Trump, 79, replied flatly. The US president said he was unaware that people were wondering if he was dead, but had heard there were concerns about his health.

"I knew they were saying, 'Is he okay? How's he feeling? What's wrong?'" Trump said, calling the rumors "fake news" and saying he was "very active over the weekend."

Recently, Trump was seen with a bruise on the back of his right hand, and also had swelling around his ankles.

The White House said Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, which means the veins in his legs don't properly return blood to the heart, causing it to pool in the lower extremities. It's a common condition in the elderly.

Rumors began circulating online claiming Trump was ill or even dead, with the hashtag “#whereistrump” going viral on Friday. Speculation then flared as several White House reporters noted that the president had not appeared in public since a cabinet meeting on Tuesday and had no scheduled activities all weekend.
