Our planet will become hotter, storms more powerful and rainfall more intense. Scientists have come to a point where they are now saying that the past cannot be undone and climate change is happening.
Reading University Professor Hannah Cloke confirmed that we have just seen the warmest August on record globally, which came just after the warmest July and June on record.
"So the intense heat that we've seen in these heat waves and the intense rainfall that we've seen in some of these heavy rainstorms, these are things that we can no longer avoid. And they will get worse because this is historic. These are the things we have done to the climate in the past. We cannot change it. We can't get out of this. But we still have a choice about the future and how much we will change our climate in the future ," said Hannah Cloke, professor at Reading University.
What will happen next summer with temperatures will largely depend on the El Nino phenomenon. If this boiling of the oceans continues, experts warn that along with worsening climate change we will experience extremely harsh weather conditions.
" What will happen next year is difficult to predict, but we can say with certainty that in the future we will see more of these extreme developments. Yet we can still avoid the worst in climate chaos. We are involved in some changes, but how bad it will be is up to us ," he said.
The climate change expert added that if we choose to reduce environmental pollution by avoiding fuels and emissions of harmful gases in the atmosphere, then extreme weather events will also be reduced.
