One of the many questions surrounding Alexei Navalny's death is why did it happen now, almost three years after he returned to Russia?
William Felix Browder, better known as Bill Browder, the 59-year-old chief executive and co-founder of investment fund and asset management company Hermitage Capital Management, once Russia's largest foreign investor, said there are three reasons why the Russian politician and critic of the president of the Russian Federation died on Friday.
According to him, first, Vladimir Putin wanted to eliminate a political opponent.
Second, he wanted to show Russians that if you oppose Putin, you will face death.
And third, it sent a message to those sitting at the Munich Security Conference, where world leaders met to discuss defense issues, that Putin can "cross any red line."
Although Browder was previously a supporter of Putin, the Russian government blacklisted his company in v2005 and characterized it as a threat to Russia's national security.
