After protests and mass killings by Ayatollahs, US prepares military attack
The US is expected to strike Iran within 24 hours, Reuters reported, citing sources in Washington.
Meanwhile, unusual military movements have been observed in the Middle East, as Washington is withdrawing personnel from key bases such as Al Udeid in Qatar. Multiple sources confirm that this is a precautionary step due to increasing threats coming from Tehran that in the event of an attack, it will hit American bases.
US and European officials consider military intervention inevitable. An Israeli official also told Reuters that President Trump has already made the decision to act, although it is not yet known when and in what form the intervention will take place.
On the other hand, the Iranian regime is facing major internal unrest. Over 2,600 people have been reported killed in protests that have erupted over an economic crisis and political repression. Iranian authorities have responded with brutality, arresting over 18,000 citizens and speeding up trials and executions of protesters. International human rights groups are calling this the most violent crackdown in Iran's modern history.
The US president has repeatedly warned that the US will intervene if Iran continues to crack down on protesters. He has called for civil resistance and promised "help along the way," signaling that Washington will not stand idly by.
Tehran has responded by threatening that if the US attacks, then all US military bases in the region, including those in Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Turkey, will be military targets. The Iranians have contacted the governments of these countries seeking to stop Washington from an act of war, but the warning was clear: whoever shelters the US becomes an enemy.
Meanwhile, the government in Tehran is trying to maintain control through propaganda. State media is broadcasting images of funerals for protest victims, where citizens appear with pictures of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and slogans in support of the regime. This effort is intended to send the message that the government has not lost popular support.
President Masoud Pezeshkian, newly elected but with limited power compared to Khamenei, declared that as long as the government has the people with it, all efforts against it will fail. But in reality, the government is losing ground every day.
At the moment, the situation is on the verge of explosion. With diplomatic contacts suspended and militaries on high alert, a major clash between Iran and the United States seems ever closer. And this conflict, if it occurs, will have major consequences for the entire Middle East and for the global order.
