The United States will help defend Poland if Russia continues to increase pressure.
Donald Trump made the statement while speaking to reporters at the White House before leaving for Charlie Kirk's funeral, according to Bloomberg.
Responding to a reporter's question, US President Donald Trump pledged to support the Baltic states and Poland in the event of further escalation of tensions with Russia. Asked in Washington whether he would support the countries in their defense, Trump replied: "I will, I will."
NATO allies plan to discuss an airspace violation by Russian fighter jets reported by Estonia early next week. The consultations will be held under Article 4 of the NATO treaty, a spokesman for the military alliance said.
Russia has denied any violation of airspace.
NATO's Article 4 requires consultations with allies if a NATO country considers itself under an external threat. Estonia requested this after three Russian fighter jets illegally entered the airspace of the EU and NATO state on Friday, according to military sources.
Poland also reported on Friday evening that two Russian fighter jets approached a Polish drilling platform in the Baltic Sea at low altitude, violating a security zone over the facility. They reportedly approached the Petrobaltic drilling platform at an altitude of 150 meters. There was no violation of the border.
"On September 22, at 11:00 a.m. New York time, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting in response to Russia's brazen violation of Estonian airspace last Friday," the Estonian Foreign Ministry announced.
"This is the first time in Estonia's 34 years at the United Nations that the country has officially requested an urgent meeting of the Security Council," a statement posted on the ministry's website said.
