Trump: The war in Iran and the war in Ukraine could end at the same time
Donald Trump

United States President Donald Trump has provided details from a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, suggesting that the wars in Ukraine and Iran could end in a similar timeframe.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said Putin had expressed a willingness to declare a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine. He described the conversation as "very good" and added that a resolution to the conflict "will come relatively quickly."

The US president stressed that broader international issues were also discussed during the call. " Putin told me he wanted to help in the war against Iran. I said: before you help me, I want you to finish your war ," Trump said.

He added that he had asked the Russian leader to focus on ending the conflict in Ukraine, underlining that this remains a priority for Washington. " I think Ukraine, from a military point of view, is possible ," Trump declared, giving an assessment of the situation on the ground.

At the same time, Trump hinted that there is a window for diplomatic progress in the Iran crisis, saying that talks with Tehran are currently taking place remotely after canceling a planned in-person meeting over the weekend.

The US president also revealed that Putin has offered to contribute to issues related to the Iranian nuclear program. " He would like to help. He could help us with the enrichment issue as well ," Trump said, referring to the possibility of Russian involvement in managing nuclear materials.

According to him, there is a possibility that the two major conflicts – in Ukraine and in Iran – will follow a similar trajectory towards resolution. Trump assessed that both crises could end “in the near term,” suggesting a coordinated diplomatic effort on several fronts.

He added that he has known the Russian president for a long time and believes a deal was possible even earlier. " I think he was ready for a deal a long time ago, but several factors prevented it ," Trump said.

The US president's statements come at a time when the war in Ukraine has continued since 2022 without a clear solution, while tensions with Iran remain high, with ongoing efforts to restart negotiations on the nuclear program.
