United States President Donald Trump has declared that US objectives in the Middle East are close to being achieved, hinting at a possible withdrawal of military engagement in the region.
In a post on Friday on the Truth Social platform, Trump said that ending military operations against the Iranian regime is being considered.
"We are coming very close to achieving our objectives and are considering the conclusion of our major military effort in the Middle East against the terrorist regime of Iran," he wrote.
Commenting on the Strait of Hormuz, the 79-year-old president stressed that its protection and patrolling should be carried out by the countries that use it, while the US will not participate directly.
The American leader, however, left open the possibility of American support if requested by other countries.
"If requested, we will assist these countries in their efforts in Hormuz, but that should not be necessary once the threat from Iran disappears," Trump concluded.
The war in the Middle East began on February 28 with the US-Israeli attack announced by US President Donald Trump, opening a new chapter of direct clashes with Iran.
The most shocking developments are the elimination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior official Ali Larijani in Israeli strikes, bringing about an immediate change in the leadership of Iran with the rise to power of Mojtaba Khamenei and bringing the region to the brink of uncontrolled escalation. This Friday, March 20, the assassination of IRGC spokesman Ali Mohammad Naini was also reported.
Trump has threatened direct strikes on Iran's vital energy infrastructure, while after the Israeli attack on the giant South Pars gas field, gas and oil prices have risen.
