US President Donald Trump has publicly responded to bizarre rumors circulating on social media over the weekend that he had died. In an ironic and defiant tone, Trump described the speculation as "crazy rumors" and "ridiculous conspiracies."
In a press conference on Tuesday, after several days of public absence, Trump said he was unaware of these allegations and that he had found the Labor Day weekend quite active.
"No, actually I was very active over the weekend. I didn't hear anything so serious," he said with a cold smile, underlining that he had not imagined that his absence for two days would spark so much panic and speculation.
Trump acknowledged that he had heard some general concerns about his well-being, but not about any "fake news" alluding to his death.
“I knew they were saying, ‘Is he okay? How is he feeling? What’s wrong?’” he added. “But to go as far as ‘he’s passed away’… that’s just ridiculous.”
According to him, over the weekend he had been active every day at his golf club in Virginia and had also given an interview to the conservative media outlet "Daily Caller", which - according to Trump - clearly proves his continued health and energy.
"I was very active this Labor Day. I had heard some rumors circulating, but I didn't take it seriously," he stressed.
To further dismiss the speculation, Trump cited his political activities last week, including a cabinet meeting that, he said, lasted over three hours.
Finally, he did not leave out the current president Joe Biden, ironically saying that the latter "can disappear from the public eye for months and no one asks."
"I didn't show up for two days and immediately they said, 'Something must have happened.' Whereas Biden doesn't make public appearances for months, and nobody reacts," Trump said ironically.
