US President Donald Trump declared this evening that he is "very disappointed" with Vladimir Putin, publicly reiterating his dissatisfaction with the Russian leader.
Trump had hoped that a face-to-face meeting with Putin last month in Alaska would pave the way for a peace deal in Ukraine. However, no agreement emerged from the meeting and no second meeting is planned. Meanwhile, Russia has continued its air offensive, causing numerous casualties, including dozens killed in Kiev after drone strikes last week.
"I'm very disappointed in him, he knows. We have a good relationship, but I'm very disappointed. Thousands of people are dying. It's not Americans who are dying, it's Russians and Ukrainians, and there are thousands," Trump said in an interview with the Scott Jennings Show radio show.
He added: "We'll see what happens, but I can say that I'm very disappointed in President Putin. We're going to do something to help people live. It's not just a matter of Ukraine, it's a matter of saving lives."
In the same interview, the American president said he is "not at all concerned" about the perceived axis in the West between China and Russia, as Xi Jinping is hosting various leaders in Beijing, including Putin.
