US President Donald Trump and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron

US President Donald Trump delivered a speech to Republican members of the House of Representatives in Washington on Tuesday, where he stated that most people who respect him call him "Mr. President."

During the speech, Trump referenced an example involving French President Emmanuel Macron. The US president claimed to have spoken with his French counterpart about the cost of prescription drugs, claiming that the US was paying “14 times more” than other countries for the same weight-loss drug, Ozempic.

Trump said that the US was selling medicines to Europe at subsidized prices and that, for this reason, he had contacted the French president to increase the prices of American drugs in France, a request that he said was initially rejected.

In a statement that appeared mocking, imitating Macron, the Republican said: "No, no, no, we will not do this," adding that "some were very polite, some were rude. But they all said one thing, no, we will not do it."

Trump claimed that the refusal lasted an average of only about 3.2 minutes, before the interlocutors, he said, said: “We would be honored to quadruple the price of drugs.” Again singling out Macron as an “example,” Trump showed how he had used tariffs as a threat to world leaders.

"Emmanuel, if you haven't agreed to everything we want by Monday, I will put a 25 percent tariff on everything coming from France, including wines, champagnes and everything else," Trump said.

According to him, Macron replied: "Donald, uh, you have a deal. I'm going to raise the prices of prescription drugs by 200 percent or whatever. I'd love to do it, it would be a great honor."

Further, Trump also stated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "not very happy" with him due to the 50 percent tariff imposed on India.
