US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he wants to launch a "major investigation" into the support that his former presidential opponent Kamala Harris received from celebrities, adding fuel to the fire in the confrontation that began last week with the famous rock singer Bruce Springsteen.
"How much money did Kamala Harris pay Bruce Springsteen for his poor performance during her presidential campaign?" Trump asked in a post on Truth Social, which was made in all caps, referring to the famous singer's appearance at a Harris campaign rally in the state of Georgia a few weeks before the presidential election.
"Candidates are not allowed to pay for donations (they receive), which is what Kamala did, pretending to pay for entertainment. Moreover, it was a very expensive and desperate attempt to artificially increase the small crowds she was drawing to her campaign rallies," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"I will demand a full investigation into the matter," the US president stressed.
During her 2024 election campaign, Harris sought the support of big music and television stars, such as Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey.
Winfrey has already denied that her production company received $1 million from the former US vice president's campaign team. Additionally, Harris' team has denied rumors that she paid Beyonce to appear at a campaign event.
Last week, Trump lashed out at Springsteen, saying he "never liked, never liked his music or his extreme left-wing politics" and called the singer an "idiot" after comments he made during a concert in Manchester, England.
"My homeland, the America I love, the America I wrote about, which has been a beacon of hope and freedom for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treacherous government," Springsteen said at the concert, urging the audience to "raise their voices against authoritarianism and let freedom triumph."
