The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, hosted today, in a meeting at the Presidential Institution, the High Security and Defense Course, attended by military personnel from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, Turkey, Italy, Hungary, Croatia, Kosovo, as well as representatives from national security institutions.
The President of the Republic praised the Higher Course on Security and Defense Studies for its purpose beyond its academic nature, such as strengthening relations between militaries from different NATO countries and partner countries that serve to strengthen the ties of the countries to which they belong. Speaking about geostrategic developments and the challenges of peace and security, President Begaj emphasized the importance of increasing investments in the field of defense.
"Albanian institutions are committed to continuing to increase defense spending," the President said.
The Head of State introduced the students to Albania's policies in the region and in the international arena, based on cooperation, bilateral and multilateral relations, and strengthening friendship.
"Building bridges, not walls, is at the foundation of Albania's foreign policy, fully aligned with that of the European Union. As Albanians, we believe in promoting peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development for our country, for our neighbors and for all our friends", said the Head of State at this meeting.
During the conversation with the trainees, President Begaj responded to their interest regarding the challenges to the security of the Western Balkans. The Head of State emphasized the importance of these countries' membership in the European Union, underlining the fact of the reawakening of European countries' attention to the region with the launch of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“I think that the countries of the Western Balkans are facing the same challenges, the challenges of a more consolidated democratic system, the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organized crime, the strengthening of institutions, the growth of economic development, the adaptation to the green agenda, as well as communication issues and the fight against disinformation. “In order to achieve success in these areas, we must work together in unity and solidarity”, declared the President.
During this meeting, the Advisors of President Begaj introduced the students to the function of the Institution of the President of the Republic, as well as the role of the Head of State in a Parliamentary Republic and as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
