Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened that Moscow will intensify attacks on Ukraine, following an unprecedented Ukrainian attack carried out over the weekend in the Russian city of Belgorod.
Saturday's attack in Belgorod left 24 people dead and 100 others injured. This attack came after Moscow launched a large-scale attack on Ukrainian cities.
"We will intensify attacks. "No crime against civilians will go unpunished, that's for sure," Putin said Monday during a visit to a military hospital.
He added that Russia will continue to strike what the Russian president called "military installations".
"We are doing this today, we will do it tomorrow and we will continue to do so ," Putin said, as Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine nearly entered its second year.
These statements by Putin came on the day Ukraine reported a "record number" of Russian drone strikes. Ukraine reported 90 drone strikes overnight.
The Russian leader also said that he believes that the "strategic initiative" in the conflict in Ukraine is on Russia's side.
"This is how they informed me" , he said.
Putin also claimed that Moscow wants to end the conflict "as soon as possible", but "only according to our criteria".
He emphasized that Ukraine is being used by the West "to solve the problems" that the West has with Russia./ REL
