The Ukrainian commander for the Tavria military sector, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, has accused Russian forces of continuing to use chemical weapons in Ukraine, violating international conventions.
Tarnavskyi said that an incident occurred near Novodanylivka, where chloropicrin was found in a rocket attack, but fortunately there were no casualties.
Chloropicrin vapors cause intense skin and eye irritation, and inhalation may damage internal organs.
Although it was once used during World War I, this substance is now universally banned for military purposes.
"The Russians are trying to stop our advance, but their efforts will be in vain ," said Tarnavskyi.
This is not the first reported case of Russia using chemical warfare in its conflict with Ukraine.
Ukraine's Border Service had previously reported Russian military deployment of irritant aerosol munitions and chemical grenades near Avdiivka, Donetsk region, on May 26.
