Prigozhin's death, the Russian media "find" the cause: the bomb

Evgeny Prigozhin and his lieutenants are officially dead, Moscow confirmed yesterday. But there is a lot of mystery about the reasons for the accident.

The newspaper "Moskovsky Komsomolets" continues to publish rumors about what happened in the weeks before the disaster. Details that seem to paint a plot or prove a thesis that investigators will, if necessary, turn into truth.

The paper reverts to an earlier report that the plane had problems with its air conditioning and the maintenance service installed a new, imported unit. According to the newspaper, it is no wonder that the bomb was planted right there.

The newspaper also dwells on the habits of leader Wagner. The "cook" suddenly changed plans. According to her, he never took the same path he had declared. According to the newspaper, the trip from the capital to St. Petersburg was planned for the 20th, then it was postponed to the 23rd. Then the schedule changed along with the passenger list: at first three, then seven. But these are normal situations for a "warlord" who uses a private jet and is engaged in negotiations with rivals.

Apparently less normal was the decision to show the plane to two potential buyers. The meeting was scheduled for the 19th, but had been moved to the 23rd to allow the air conditioner to be repaired. The buyers, Alexandra Yulina and Sergey Klokotov, heads of the RusJet company, sent copies of their passports, a procedure required to gain access to the plane, so they could see the plane while on board from 9.30 to 10.30. The pilot Rustam Karimov was also present. No one noticed - according to the journalistic writing - suspicious actions, while nothing alarming came out.

On the other hand, there are no details of what happened next and who, if anyone, had access to the plane before takeoff. At around 17.40, eleven minutes late, the plane took off from Moscow to meet its fate.

The expectations of "Moskovsky Komsomolets" can be interpreted as preparing the ground for a future announcement from the Kremlin about those responsible for the explosion. After identifying the bodies with DNA, a judicial conclusion with the names and faces of the perpetrators is needed.

The long history of "airborne" terrorism speaks of conflicting theories, sometimes uncertain conclusions, unsolved cases, endless doubts, many tricks to plant a bomb. A laptop, canisters, bottles, ordinary items, a cigarette case, a radio, and even a gift package can hide explosives that can open a hole in the body, causing irreparable consequences. / Corriere Della Sera
