Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet made an official reaction to the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, who until two months ago was one of his closest people and led the war in Ukraine.
Putin has so far remained tight-lipped about the reported death of Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Last night, shortly after news broke that Prigozhin was on board the downed plane, Putin appeared at a memorial concert in the Kursk region marking the anniversary of a famous World War II battle.
During the event, he paid tribute to the Russians killed during the so-called 'special military operation' in Ukraine.
According to experts, Putin will wait until an official version of the events surrounding the plane crash is "made up". The Kremlin leader is well known for his "wait and see" attitude after major events.
Born in 1961 in Leningrad, today Saint Petersburg, Prigozhin was sentenced to 9 years in prison in 1981 for robbery and fraud.
In 1990, after being released from prison, he started working as a street vendor of hotdogs. Very soon he managed to open a chain of restaurants, a catering service company called Konkord, as well as a casino. In the 90s, Putin worked in the City Hall of St. Petersburg and there they got to know each other because of Prigozhin's luxurious restaurants where he hosted very important people.
Benefiting from the recognition of the elites, and especially when Putin became President of Russia, Prigozhin with his company Konkord managed to obtain contracts for government services, one of the most famous of which was the visit of American President George W. Bush. The contracts won by Prigozhin did not end there as he managed to get a staggering contract for catering in schools in Russia. The contracts won by Prigozhin earned him the nickname Putin's Chef.
