Three members of a family were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an eight-year-old girl in Turkey's Diyarbakir province, a case that shocked the entire country.

Narin Guran was missing from her family for 19 days. The tragic event happened in September of this year, where her body was found in a sack thrown on the bed of a stream, about one kilometer from the village where she lived with her family.

After a tense hearing, a Diyarbakır court sentenced Narin's mother, older brother and uncle to life in prison for "deliberate and joint murder," according to an AFP journalist who was present at the hearing.

The judge sentenced another suspect, Nevzat Bakhtiar, who had admitted the murder, to 4 years and 6 months in prison.

8-year-old Narin was last seen on the afternoon of August 21 near her home in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir. A large-scale search operation was launched by local authorities and her family, but efforts to locate her initially proved unsuccessful.

After 19 days, her body was found in a stream in a bag, in the clothes she was wearing when she was last seen before she disappeared, covered with stones and branches, about a kilometer from her village.

The "Sabah" newspaper reported that a person arrested as part of the investigation confessed that the village chief and the girl's uncle handed over the little girl's body in a bag and he took her to the stream. The girl's uncle was the first person to be arrested as a suspect in Narin's disappearance, and according to Turkish media, he had a dispute with the girl's father and brother and had threatened them in the past.

After the discovery of the body of 8-year-old Narine, the police continued the arrest of 24 people, including the mother, father, two siblings, four uncles and the wife of the uncle arrested initially.

From the autopsy and necropsy of the victim, which lasted over 11 hours, it was found that there is a fracture in the knee, in the lower left limb of the girl.

When the 8-year-old girl was found dead, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan himself vowed to "monitor the judicial process to ensure that those who took Narina from us receive the harshest punishment they deserve."
