The Pentagon used the Claude artificial intelligence model, developed by the company Anthropic, during the attack on Iran, even though it had previously imposed a ban on the use of this company's tools.
The news was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the American newspaper, the Claude model was used for intelligence assessments, target identification and simulation of battle scenarios as part of operational planning. The sources emphasize that the system helped analyze data and process strategic information before military intervention.
The use of Anthropic's technology comes shortly after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth imposed restrictions on the startup's use of artificial intelligence tools. According to the WSJ, the ban was aimed at how the systems are used in sensitive military contexts.
