According to the investigation, the toy gun found near the body only had the officer's DNA. The prosecution speaks of a deliberate and conscious act...
An important development has occurred in the investigation into the murder of a young man during a police check in the Rogoredo area of Milan. Police have arrested 41-year-old officer Carmelo Cinturrino, suspected of the murder of Abderrahim Mansour, known as “Zack”, and of attempting to stage the event.
According to Corriere della Sera, the first photo of the body, taken by Cinturrino himself with his phone before the ambulance arrived, raised immediate suspicions among investigators. The victim is seen lying face up, with traces of mud visible on his face. According to the investigation's reconstruction, Mansouri had initially fallen face down in the mud after being shot, which suggests that the body was then rolled over.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 26. Initially, the version presented by the police officers present was that Mansouri had pointed a gun at the officer, who had reacted by shooting. However, subsequent investigations and new evidence have changed this narrative.
A witness, an Afghan national with addiction problems, who was present at the scene, told prosecutor Giovanni Tarzia that Mansouri was holding a phone in one hand and a stone in the other. According to him, when he saw the policeman, he raised his hand as if he was going to throw the stone. At that moment, Cinturrino pulled out his gun and fired. The witness added that the victim fell forward, face down on the ground.
Another person, who was on the phone with Mansour at the time of the shooting, confirmed that he heard the explosion at 5:32 p.m. The emergency call was not made by Cinturrino until 5:55 p.m., about 23 minutes later.
The four police officers at the scene initially supported the version that the victim was armed. Only after being investigated for favoritism and failure to provide assistance did they change their statements. One of them, 28, admitted that no one had shouted “stop, police” and that Mansouri did not have a weapon. According to him, after shooting, Cinturrino approached and turned his body. Then, he gave the car keys to a colleague to get a “bag of documents” from the police station. When the colleague returned, Cinturrino opened the trunk, took a black object from the bag and ran back towards the victim’s body.
The scientific examination confirmed that the toy gun found near the body contained only Cinturrino's DNA, on parts such as the trigger, hammer and handle. No biological traces of Mansour were found.
According to prosecutors Tarzia and Marcello Viola, the officer acted "with awareness and clarity," while the investigative documents speak of "a worrying profile of the suspect's dangerousness." Investigators assess that there is a risk of repetition of the criminal offense.
Cinturrino was stopped in the police station parking lot, having just arrived from Carpiano, where he lives. During the stop, he told his colleagues: "Do what you have to do." According to the Corriere della Sera report, he told his lawyer that he had placed the gun next to Mansour out of fear of the consequences of the incident.
The interrogation before the investigating judge is expected to take place today at the San Vittore prison. Police Chief Vittorio Pisani has described Cinturrino as a "criminal", while local authorities have stated that they will act harshly against any violation of the law by law enforcement.
