The chief executive of UnitedHealth's insurance division was fatally shot Wednesday morning outside the Hilton Hotel in Midtown in what police say was an attack aimed at eliminating him.
Brian Thompson, 50, was on his way to the hotel about 6:46 a.m. for a conference when a masked man fired repeatedly at him along Sixth Avenue before riding away on a bicycle, police sources said.

Thompson was hit in the chest, shocking video shows, as he was then rushed in critical condition to Mt. Sinai, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
A surveillance photo shows the moment the hooded gunman stands with a gun outside the luxury hotel at West 54th Street and Sixth Avenue.
Another surveillance photo shows the suspected gunman, who is carrying a backpack, leaving on a bicycle. For finding him, 10 thousand dollars have been made available to anyone with information.
