It has been rumored for months about a crack in their personal relationship, influenced by the arms deliveries that Serbia has made in favor of Ukraine.
But Vladimir Putin and Aleksandar Vucic can meet after a long time and the place is completely unusual. The two leaders, according to the Serbian media "Novosti", may come together at the inauguration ceremony of Claudia Scheinbaum as the new President of Mexico, which is set to take place on October 1.
According to "Novosti", it is very likely that at this ceremony Vucic will meet the leader of the Russian Federation, who is also invited, as the Mexican embassy in Moscow has confirmed to the newspaper "Izvestia" that the Kremlin has been sent an invitation.
"The Russian president will decide if he will come to the inauguration or if he will appoint another high-ranking official to come on his behalf," announced the diplomatic mission of Mexico.
It is not excluded that Putin decides to travel, given the great strategic importance that Mexico has on the American continent. Putin congratulated Sheinbaum on her victory in June, saying Mexico is "a historically friendly partner of Russia in Latin America."
But what can prevent the head of the Kremlin is a decision of the International Criminal Court. The IC has issued an arrest warrant for Putin in 2023, accusing him of war crimes related to the "illegal entry of hundreds of children from Ukraine" after Moscow began the military operation in February 2022.
Intriguingly, Mexico is a member of the court, but is not even thought to be expected to act on its orders if Putin arrives on their territory.
Meanwhile, the Russian leader tried to show the world that he is not isolated, so after the triumph in the March elections, he began a more vigorous diplomatic activity. In May, he made an official visit to China, and a month later he also visited North Korea and Vietnam.
