Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told US President Joe Biden, in their telephone conversation, that the United States has a historic responsibility to reach a lasting ceasefire in Gaza as soon as possible, Ankara reported.
Erdogan said deepening and prolonging Israel's attacks on Gaza could have negative regional and global consequences.
"It is the historic responsibility of the US to ensure a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible", Erdogan said.
He also stressed that the withdrawal of unconditional US support for Israel could ensure a quick ceasefire and that calls for such a move had increased in recent days globally and in the United States.
Erdogan told his counterpart that the establishment of the guarantee mechanism proposed by Turkey, territorial integrity based on the 1967 borders and the creation of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital would be a permanent solution.
The two leaders also discussed Sweden's NATO accession process and Turkey-US bilateral relations, including the issue of the sale of F-16 fighter jets, Erdogan's office said.
