Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday called on Western allies to allow the use of their weapons, including grenades and long-range missiles, for attacks on military airports and bases on the territory of the Russian Federation.
"I appeal to the US, Great Britain, France and Germany: we need the ability to really and fully defend Ukraine and Ukrainians. Russian terror can be stopped only in one way: by attacking the enemy's airports, bases and military logistics," Zelensky said in his evening speech.
He noted that freeing Ukraine's airspace from Russian-led aerial bomb attacks is an important step "to force Russia to seek an end to the war" and to conclude a just peace.
Zelensky recalled that this Saturday morning Russian forces again attacked the Sumy and Kharkiv regions with aerial guided bombs, noting that "Russian terror" can only be stopped by strikes by Ukrainian forces on Russian bases and logistics and that Ukraine should discuss this with her partners.
The Ukrainian leader once again called on allies to deliver the promised air defense systems as soon as possible, which, he said, is especially important now to protect children who are returning to school.
"We have agreements with you regarding air defense and missiles for air defense systems. It is important that everything is implemented as soon as possible. These days we are working even more actively for additional air defense systems" , he told the allies.
