Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a warning about Russia's attempt to involve Belarus in its war, whether with a new operation towards Kiev or an attack against one of the NATO countries.
“We continue to document Russia’s efforts to involve Belarus more deeply in the war against Ukraine. We know that other contacts have taken place between the Russians and Alexander Lukashenko, which are aimed at persuading him to join new aggressive Russian operations. “Russia is considering plans for operations in the south and north of Belarusian territory, either against the Chernihiv-Kiev direction in Ukraine, or against one of the NATO countries directly from the territory of Belarus,” the Ukrainian president added, emphasizing that he is in possession of “the conversation between Russia and Belarus.
"Ukraine will undoubtedly defend itself and its people if Alexander Lukashenko makes the wrong decision and decides to support this Russian goal as well," said Zelensky, who has ordered the army to strengthen defenses on the borders with Belarus and prepare a response plan, Zelensky wrote in a message on the social network X.
Recall that on May 9, Zelensky also condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to sign a decree facilitating the granting of Russian citizenship to Moldovan citizens living in the separatist region of Transnistria, where a Russian military contingent is also located.
"Not only is Russia trying in this way to secure new soldiers, because citizenship also brings military conscription, but it is also Russia's way of claiming the territory of Transnistria," Zelensky said.
"Most likely they need more people to send to war in Ukraine," declared Moldovan President Maia Sandu, underlining that the decree constitutes a threat to Moldova.
