There are still many boxes to count and the results may change later, but if this trend continues, Erdogan will lose the country's three main municipalities and receive a strong "slap" a year after re-confirming himself as president of Turkey.
This Sunday more than 61 million voters have decided who will represent them at the local level. After the closing of the voting centers in Turkey, the counting of the boxes has started.
Meanwhile, the release of the first projections has started. The main targets of the battle are the country's economic center, Istanbul, and the capital, Ankara, which Erdogan lost in 2019.
For the opposition - divided and demoralized after a defeat in last year's presidential and parliamentary elections - holding Istanbul and Ankara would be a major boost and help remobilize supporters.
While for Erdogan, it would be, in addition to a configuration of that victory a year ago, also a symbolic victory of the last election in his political career, since the latter has declared that he will not run again.
But from the preliminary results, it seems that Erdogan will not win any of the 3 main cities of Turkey. This is because in Ankara, Izmir and Istanbul, the opposition party "CHP" is convincingly prevailing against Erdogan's "AK".
In Istanbul, when only 13 percent of the votes were counted, the opposition received 49.53 percent, while Erdogan's candidate received only 41.72 percent.
In the capital, Ankara, the opposition has a deeper advantage, from almost 11 percent of the votes counted, the opposition candidate received about 56.24 percent, while Erdogan's candidate, only 36.47 percent.
Even in Izmir, the opposition candidate leads convincingly. From the counting of 23 percent of the votes, it turns out that the opposition candidate received 47.91 percent, while the candidate from Erdogan's own party received 37.14 percent.
In addition, what can be seen in the electoral map is that in most cities the opposition party "CHP" is prevailing.
