Israel has asked Libya to accept Palestinians from Gaza as part of Donald Trump's plan for a "Middle Eastern Riviera," Axios reports. In fact, the Libyans appear open to the proposal, the report reveals.
The head of Mossad (Israeli intelligence agency), David Barnea, visited Washington this week as Israel seeks the Trump administration's help in evacuating Palestinians from Gaza, Axios reported, citing two sources with knowledge of the matter.
According to two sources, Barnea stressed to the United States envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, that Ethiopia, Indonesia and Libya are "open" to the possibility of accepting a large number of Palestinians from Gaza.
This action is considered highly controversial, with Israeli and American officials calling it a "war crime."
Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet claim that the "relocation" will be "voluntary" and no one will be forced to leave.
Barnea pressured the United States to offer incentives to these countries and support Israel.
According to Axios, it is unclear whether Washington will offer support.
The acting Interior Minister, Emad al-Trabelsi, in the transitional government in Tripoli, recently estimated that there are "3 to 4 million irregular migrants" in Libya today.
