Here are the testimonies that disprove Sali Berisha's claims about the December Movement...
Tomorrow marks 34 years since the Student Movement that finally changed the course of Albanian history. About 300 students started what was later called the Student Movement of the 90s. Those organized marched from the Student City to the center of Tirana, shaking the communist system from its foundations.
On December 9, the students confirmed their demands to the president of that time, Ramiz Ali, where they generally demanded political pluralism, freedom of speech and the acceleration of democratic reforms. The protests continued until the evening of December 11, when in the meeting with Ramiz Ali, political pluralism was confirmed, which was announced immediately after returning from the meeting, starting the organizations for the establishment of the Democratic Party.
The protests continued during January and February 1991, culminating on February 20, when the bust of dictator Enver Hoxha was toppled.
Currently, December 8 is an official holiday, and those who celebrate it with enthusiasm are undoubtedly the Democrats. Tomorrow Sali Berisha is expected to come out and boast that he brought democracy. But did he really bring it? There are many testimonies and statements to the contrary. Let's not forget that Berisha was the one who went and negotiated with Ramiz Ali. Then the protest was taken away from the students.
Servet Pëllumbi , in his book "The Overthrow of Communism" writes that on December 19, 1990, Ramiz Alia called the first secretaries. From the beginning it was said: " Did you hear the news about the legalization of DP? That party is the devil that will destroy socialist ideals. But we will not allow it. The Labor Party has come out of the fire of war. It has strong bones. Therefore we will attack. From today. Go to the districts. You will be dealing with registries. Not of civil status. Registers of state insurance associates. You will read them one by one. Then you will call them. It is understood in the middle of the night, with the greatest secrecy. You will give them the task of entering the ranks of the Democratic Party. To support each other. Our informants should be on the steering committees. They must fill the lists of candidates for deputies. If this action ends successfully, and the success depends on your work, then the Democratic Party will turn into a sister of the Labor Party... !
A book was written by Ramiz Alia himself , who wrote: " Sali Berisha was a member of the Labor Party of Albania, secretary of the party organization at the Faculty of Medicine of the University and of the Hospital of Tirana, even one of the most fanatical, who everywhere spoke only with quotes from E. Hoxha.... It was somewhere around 18.00, 19.00 or thereabouts, when S. Berisha came to my house. We got straight to the point. Saliu told me that he would go and talk to the students, "although there were no students of his (medicine) there", so I informed him that, among the organizers of the demonstration , as they told me when I met their representative, there were 2-3 students from Tropoja, so a point of contact could be found, considering that Saliu himself was from Tropoja the students also continued the talks with the former Minister of Education S. Gjinushi and the former First Secretary of BRPSH L. Bashkurti Sometime around midnight, Berisha returned to me. He was quite worried (at least that's the impression he gave me) and tired ."
Another protagonist of the December Movement is Ilir Demalia . He has often accused Berisha as a missionary of ALP.
" Why didn't Enver Hoxha put all his people in prison? What prison did he (Berisha) put them in?! When the Democratic Party was formed, I wrote an article entitled "Who is the Democratic Party?" There I told them all by name, what functions they had, where they were, as I mentioned above. As for whether or not Berisha was a security agent, this can be found through the documents that say they were burned, but they also say that there are microfilms. But Berisha is definitely involved. I am telling you something for the first time. When Kadri Hazbiu went to Tropoja, he used to meet Sali Berisha's brother instead of the First Secretary ", stated Demalia.
Another protagonist is Skender Gjinushi . The head of the Academy of Sciences at that time was the Minister of Education and was part of the group that went to the Student City to negotiate with the students.
Today, none of the Decemberists are left in PD. Some of them died, some ran away because of the blows that Berisha gave them. Tomorrow PD will remember December 8, but amid many questions and dilemmas. / Pamphlet
