From the heights of power to the SPAK files; how the family network that ruled politics and justice crumbled...
Supported by Prime Minister Edi Rama since 2009, due to her connections with a controversial Albanian businessman in Greece, Ermonela Felaj began her career as a Socialist Party MP. From that moment on, Felaj rose rapidly in the political hierarchy, being appointed Minister for Relations with Parliament and then, for four terms, heading the most important parliamentary committees, such as the one for Legal Affairs, National Security and Regulation.
During this period, she created a powerful network of influence, now called the "Felaj Dynasty", with influence in politics, administration, and justice.
But by 2024, the dynasty began to crumble.
Initially, in July 2024, by order of Edi Rama, Ermonela Felaj was dismissed from the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and excluded from all functions in the party and parliament. In the elections of May 11, 2025, she was placed on the list as a candidate for deputy with the clear intention of not being re-elected.
The next blow came on September 27, 2024, when her husband, Tirana prosecutor Bledar Valikaj, was summoned by SPAK for his connections with the former Vlora chief prosecutor, Aurel Zarka, and for interfering in Lendi Palaj's file. He is accused of destroying evidence and favoring characters with a criminal profile.
Meanwhile, he was appointed prosecutor in Tirana in March 2019, without going through a vetting process and with suspicions of unjustified assets.
On July 28, 2025, Ermonela's sister, Eranda Felaj, a prosecutor in Tirana, was also banned from the judiciary for 15 years, by decision of the KPA, for illegal assets and connections to the criminal world.
The list continues with her brother, Armando Felaj, appointed judicial police officer in Tirana in 2019, and sister-in-law Alma Felaj, appointed prosecutor in 2023. All connected to each other and with a clear pattern of capturing the justice system.
