The protest organized with the arrival of Greta Thunberg in Albania displayed Hamas slogans and extremist rhetoric, confirming that the "humanitarian" agenda is being used as an instrument of anti-Israeli policies sponsored by Ankara...
The arrival of Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg in Tirana was met with enthusiasm by political and media circles known for their anti-Israel stances and proximity to Ankara’s ideological lines. However, the participation in the protest held in Skanderbeg Square was minimal, with most of the participants being activists from NGOs that receive funding to promote environmental and social causes. The protest lacked messages about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, about stopping violence against civilians, or about a sustainable solution.
Instead, only one political slogan was heard: "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," a slogan first used by Hamas' military leader, Yahya Sinwar, in 2007, as an expression of the extremist goal of eliminating the state of Israel.
This phrase, which calls for a Palestine extending across the entire territory from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, has been rejected even by the legitimate Palestinian political factor itself, such as the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority, which have recognized the two-state solution and cooperate with Israel for stability in the West Bank. Meanwhile, Hamas, with early support from Iran and connections to the secret services of Russia and Syria, has acted as an instrument of destabilization of the region, which was concretized with the massacre of October 7, 2024, in which hundreds of Israeli civilians were barbarically killed.
After the weakening of Iranian influence, it is Erdogan's Turkey that has taken on the leading role in supporting Hamas. The Turkish government has sheltered the leaders of this terrorist organization in Ankara and integrated them into the structures of its secret service (MIT), turning Turkey into a direct regional factor. This active presence is even more evident after taking control of northern Syria, making Ankara practically a border state with Israel in the Golan Heights.
In this context, protests organized under the guise of environmental and human activism are turning into platforms for extremist propaganda, inspired and financed by political circles with anti-Western agendas. Many of the organizations supporting the “pro-Palestine” movement in the West and the Balkans are financed through Turkish and Qatari channels. These organizations have moved from a humanitarian rhetoric to a platform that openly supports the disappearance of Israel and glorifies the rhetoric of Hamas.
The case of Tirana is clear evidence that even in Albania, protests that are ostensibly related to climate protection or human rights are being absorbed into a darker and more dangerous agenda, that of political extremism exported by regimes that do not hide their hatred of the West and its allies./ Pamphlet
