In Gaza today, it is not militants or soldiers who are being killed, but children, women, and the elderly. In the streets of a city that once barely breathed, black smoke and rubble now lie in place of life. Israeli airstrikes, relentless and heartless, are turning a city into a graveyard.
78 dead bodies today alone. These are not statistics, these are forbidden stories. Children who were unable to be afraid, because they were killed before they knew what fear was. Women who ran with full bellies and babies in their arms, and failed to save anything.
Today, the Middle Eastern media opened with the dilapidated portrait of a mother. Her cheeks have more marks of dust than tears. Because she has no more time to cry, she must dig, to see if she can find a limb or a breath.
While the world is busy. With regular diplomatic language, with "deep concerns", with "encouragements for restraint". But nothing more. Because in this 'regular' world, victims must be classified, and death counts according to coordinates.
In Gaza today, humanity is being killed. And silence is complicit. Worse than missiles. Because you can escape from missiles, but not from silence. Silence is the black seal of approval.
