The 2021 elections brought a kind of revival: the opposition, however divided, however led by leaders who no longer believed in what they were saying, managed to generate a movement. An energy arose against Edi Rama that came more from hatred than from faith. And anyway, an illusion of competition was created.
In today's elections, this illusion has died.
The panorama is dramatic, not because of the result; because it can be measured in numbers, but because of the psychological consequence it produces: the death of hope. And hope, neuroscientists say, is the most important brain chemistry for seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
But these are not elections. They are a distorted race, where we are not faced with the old and the new, but with political dinosaurs who refuse to leave and a timid, indecisive, unsophisticated new generation that has not yet faced the duel.
Albania misses David. In the old legend, he was small, weak in appearance, but with the courage and mind to challenge Goliath. In our case, Goliath is all-powerful: he has the state, he has the money, he has patronage, he has propaganda, he has everything. There are even Saliu's former bandits, who today serve Ed with more zeal.
It's not just a matter of years in power. Edi Rama has built a deep, ruthless structure, where politics is indistinguishable from crime and money laundering.
There are patronageists, oligarchs, and militants born of violence on their side, such as the cases in Vora or Shkodra, who until yesterday served Berisha, and today have submitted to Rama.
Meanwhile, his opponents, no matter how much they want him to lose, are powerless to make it happen. Berisha is the symbol of the dark past, Meta is toothless and without influence, Basha is without a axis, and the young people who should have been different are either tainted or hopeless.
The only thing left for us is to wait for the end of the count. We will hear the same song of the cuckoos, the same accusations, the same victimizations. But what does not change is the bitter fact: the people do not have the means to bring down Goliath, because there is still no David in front of them. And today's Goliath is more dangerous than yesterday's: it is more sophisticated, more camouflaged and more evil.
For this reason, these votes are not elections; they are another act in the Albanian political drama where the race is without challengers and hope is without an address./ Pamphlet
