We started the year 2024 well, but we hindered the momentum of tourists by being immature with a sudden, even coordinated increase in prices. The data from INSTAT on the accommodation of foreign and local tourists in different areas of Albania confirm that the month of July slowed down the growth compared to the same period a year ago.
Rrahman Kasa, from the Albanian Tourist Union, told A2: "They confirmed to me themselves that the hotels had created WhatsApp groups to raise prices due to the boom. Which didn't work out. They regretted it, lowered them later, but the impact was there. It's not the number of tourists, it's the income they bring."
Although the number of visiting tourists who stayed overnight increased compared to the previous year, few stayed for several days. From a 42.3% increase in July 2023, only 21.3% more tourists chose to sleep in Albanian hotels.
While this report is deeper among local tourists.
Feriolt Ozuni, a tourism expert, emphasized: "We have many accommodation units in the south which, taking into account 15 million tourists, increased the prices in an abusive manner, making tourists orient themselves and see the price-quality ratio".
About 362 thousand tourists slept at least one night in Albanian hotels, with the concentration in the center and south of Albania near the coastal areas. They were mainly from Kosovo, Poland, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom.
"And if a hotel was 70-80 euros for years, it went up to 120 euros. Making many hotels have empty seats", Ozuni added.
The bed occupancy rate of "Hotels and similar accommodation" reached 55% in July, increasing by 5.9%/ A2CNN
