The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania decided to keep the lek interest rate unchanged at 3.25 percent.
Meanwhile, the overnight loan interest rate will remain unchanged at 4.25% and the overnight deposit interest rate at 2.25%.
" The Supervisory Council notes that the current position of the monetary policy is consistent with our expectations in the basic scenario ", declared Gent Sejko, Governor of the Bank of Albania.
However, the wave of the price crisis has not yet receded, declared Sejko, who warned of an increase in interests in the future.
" The Council emphasizes that it remains ready to continue the process of normalizing the stance of monetary policy if this measure is considered necessary for price control and stabilization ," he said.
Although not at the pace of the last two years, the Central Bank expects the country's economy to continue expanding. Governor Sejko also showed where these expectations are based.
" The Albanian economy will grow, driven by the further expansion of consumption, investments and export of services. Economic growth will be fueled by the liquid balances of Albanian businesses and families, as well as lending ," he concluded.
According to the estimates of the Bank of Albania, inflation continues to remain at high levels mainly due to high fuel prices and rents.
