Holidays in the South this year are more expensive than ever. Vlora, Saranda and their surrounding areas are facing a significant increase in both accommodation structures and bars and restaurants.
According to an observation by Monitor Magazine, prices in accommodation structures such as daily rental houses and hotels have increased by 25-30%.
This increase has also been confirmed by market operators, who declare that all prices, both for accommodation and for food and bar-restaurants, are at least 20% more expensive than a year ago.
Tour operators explain that at the beginning of the season, high demand led to price increases, a trend that was considered normal as long as it was driven by the high flow of tourists. However, later with the approach of summer, another increase in prices was observed in anticipation of a high number of tourists, which is not actually happening.
There are more foreign tourists than a year ago, but still not as many as expected, based on the trend at the beginning of the year. This second increase in prices by tourist operators is considered somewhat speculative, driven by the thirst for quick profits, which in turn is driving away tourists, especially local ones. The removal of visas has caused even the citizens of Kosovo with the ability to pay, who previously went to the South, to flee to Greece.
Vlora, not cheaper than 55-60 euros/night
If last year, you could find an apartment in the center of Vlora for 40 euros per night, this year, this is impossible. In a simple search on popular platforms such as Booking or Airbnb for one night in July 2024 in the center of Vlora, the price of the cheapest and most suitable accommodation is around 60 euros per night.
Also, if you want to stay in other areas of Vlora such as Radhimë or Orikum, known for their family beaches and for more affordable prices, an apartment for daily rent can cost around 60 euros per night.
Prices in hotels of different categories in the Vlora area start from 90 euros per night for cheaper options, reaching up to 200 euros per night for more luxurious hotels.
Due to the large number of hotels and apartments in the center of Vlora, the offer is high and there are many opportunities to stay away from the coast for 55 euros in a hotel and up to 250 euros for a good hotel by the sea.
This shows that Vlora remains a favorite holiday destination in Albania, albeit at a higher cost compared to previous years.
From Dhërmiu to Qeparo there are no more economical accommodations, they cost up to 600 euros
The most expensive accommodations are located in Dhërmi, Jal, Himare, Borsh and Qeparo. In these areas, it is almost impossible to find economical accommodations, such as daily rental apartments and hotels.
Due to their natural beauty and wonderful beaches, these areas are favorite destinations for vacationers during the tourist season. However, finding reasonably priced accommodations becomes a challenge for many visitors.
During the peak tourist season, an apartment for daily rent in these areas starts at a minimum of 60 euros per night if it is located far from the coast. Prices for apartments near the coast can go up to 80-100 euros per night, while for the most luxurious options they can reach up to 250 euros per night.
An essential detail to note is that, although accommodations can be found at these prices, they are often very few in number. This of course has to do with the typology that has specific accommodations, where some are villas and are not provided with rooms.
For locals, hotels in these areas are inaccessible due to high accommodation costs. Prices for one night start from 250 euros and can go up to 600 euros for the most luxurious options. However, for this category of accommodation, the number of accommodation structures is limited.
Expensive, but sold
In booking, for August 9-10, most expensive structures announce that they have only one free room. However, tourist operators say that this can be a tactic to show that there is a high flow of requests.
Meanwhile, there are also many expensive structures (250-300 euros a night) that say they are fully booked for this date.
The most expensive price in the south is for villas, which reach over a thousand euros per night, but which have a higher accommodation capacity compared to hotel rooms.
For hotels and expensive accommodation units, reviews are generally high, above 8 (very good) or above 9 (excellent) or even close to 10 (exceptional). However, there are also hotels with a price of 360 euros per night, where the rating is below 8.
In a case where the rating is 7.8, vacationers give low marks for the staff and value for money. "The service was very bad! The price is very high for Albania, so we expected great service", writes Jakub from the Czech Republic.
While another unit that in August has prices up to 700 euros a night (room for three people), and in September the prices drop to 450 euros, the rating reaches 9.6.
"We had a great time! We stayed in a beautiful suite with a sea view. It was spacious, comfortable, clean and modern. The staff, the room, the view, everything was so incredible. "We had a wonderful time sitting on the balcony watching the sea at night," writes Katya from Canada.
Even Saranda is becoming more expensive, but there are also economic alternatives

Në Sarandë, opsionet për akomodim në hotelet e qytetit mund të ndryshojnë në çmim në varësi të afërsisë me bregdetin. Në Hotelet e qytetit mund të flesh duke shpenzuar 80 euro në hotele larg bregut dhe deri në 300 euro nëse merr një hotel të mirë buzë detit.
Kjo tregon se rritja e çmimeve nuk është një fenomen i izoluar, por një trend i përgjithshëm që po prek të gjithë zonën bregdetare të Jugut të Shqipërisë.
Operatorët turistikë shprehen se ka një tendencë për përfitime të shpejta në jug, çka po ndikon në rritjen e çmimeve. Por, nga ana tjetër ka ndryshuar tipologjia e turistëve që po shpenzojnë gjithnjë e më pak, teksa po vijnë shumë të rinj.
Në rritje edhe kampingjet
Përveç hoteleve dhe apartamenteve, edhe opsionet e tjera për akomodim si kampingjet kanë përjetuar një rritje të vazhdueshme të çmimeve. Në vitin e kaluar, një çadër kampingu mund të gjendej për 10 euro në ditë, duke e bërë atë një opsion të arsyeshëm për buxhetin e udhëtarëve.
Megjithatë, këtë vit ky çmim është rritur në 30 euro për natë. Kjo tregon se edhe opsionet më të lira për akomodim po përballen me një rritje të ndjeshme të kostove, gjë që mund të ndikojë në zgjedhjen e destinacionit për pushime.
Si krahasohet Jugu me Greqinë
Krahasuar me vendet e tjera turistike në rajon, si Greqia, ku mund të gjenden shumë apartamente me qira ditore në çmime më të arsyeshme, Shqipëria po has me sfida të mëdha për të mbajtur konkurrencën në tregun e turizmit.
Në destinacione të njohura turistike të Greqisë si Athina, Mykonos, Rodos, Parga dhe Kreta, çmimet për akomodime vijnë në shkallë të ndryshme, duke ofruar një gamë të gjerë opsionesh për vizitorët.
Në Athinë, për shembull, çmimet për apartamente me qira ditore lëvizin nga 26 euro deri në 1600 euro për një natë, ndërsa për hotele luhaten nga 45 euro deri në 2000 euro, sipas një kërkimi në Booking.
Mykonos ofron apartamente me qira ditore nga 115 euro deri në 3350 euro për një natë, ndërsa hotelet mund të kushtojnë nga 150 euro deri në 3900 euro për një natë.
Rodos, një destinacion i njohur për plazhet e tij dhe trashëgiminë e tij historike, ofron apartamente me qira ditore nga 42 euro deri në 340 euro për një natë, ndërsa çmimet për hotelet lëvizin nga 50 euro deri në 390 euro për një natë. Parga ofron apartamente me qira ditore nga 55 euro deri në 300 euro për një natë dhe hotele nga 90 euro deri në 400 euro për një natë.
Në Kretë, ishulli i pestë më i madh në Mesdhe, çmimet për apartamente me qira ditore lëvizin nga 40 euro deri në 225 euro për një natë, ndërsa për hotele mund të kushtojnë nga 60 euro deri në 700 euro për një natë.
