The Albanian economy is growing steadily and rapidly.
INSTAT stated that in the first 3 months the economy expanded by 3.6%. But how to understand this indicator, which seems to be at the same levels for several quarters in a row. The former Minister of Finance Arben Malaj, during an interview for Vizion Plus on the show "E-ZONE", shows the reasons why this figure is not felt in the pockets of the citizens.
"This increase does not distribute the benefits well. It is a concentrated increase, while social protection for citizens is not reflected. The needy classes feel unsupported, while the middle classes follow a contraction, which has economic and political effects. In today's world, the middle class is the engine that generates qualitative economic growth. An increase of 3.6% as for the beginning of the year is a positive indicator, it is not at the required levels. An economic growth that is felt in the pockets of citizens should range from 6-8%", said Arben Malaj in "E-ZONE".
Agriculture is the most declining vital sector, along with industry. They are sectors that bear weight in employment. While the growth is being led by construction, real estate as well as public administration. But should we be satisfied with such growth?
"Construction and real estate have shown signs of contraction. It's a cycle that would come naturally after the successive appreciation that has happened to real estate. I have come to an economic conclusion regarding developments: Albania is becoming more expensive, while Albanians are becoming poorer and poorer," said Malaj.
According to Malaj, well-being is being harmed by state capture, corruption and political nepotism of employment.
