Albanian families lead in Europe and the Western Balkans region for the expenses they have to buy food per month.
In Europe, families spend an average of 13.6% on food per month or three times less. Even in the Western Balkan region, Albania is the country with the most expenses in this direction, while Serbia has the lowest with 24%.
In the European Union, the highest expenses with 24% are for "housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels", followed by food, while the third largest group is expenses for transport.
These groups make up half of the expenses of European families. Meanwhile, another panorama is presented in Albania, where half of the expenses are exactly food and payments for household bills.
A group that in 2022 recognized strong growth both in Albania and Europe was that of spending in bars - restaurants and hotels, which came with strong growth since the pandemic period when the industry suffered a severe blow.
Meanwhile, there is a clear difference between the expenses that Europeans make for entertainment and culture, as well as for other goods and services compared to Albanian families.
Taking into account the aggregates in Europe, it can be observed that since 2012 family expenses in relation to GDP have had a downward trend, while the same thing has happened in Albania, where the comparison is made since 2014, where the contribution has decreased by almost 4%. This means that GDP growth has come from other factors beyond household consumption./ TCH
