European Parliament reiterates demand to Serbia: Relations with Kosovo must be

The European Parliament has reiterated that Serbia must show true commitment to the values of the European Union. Through a post on "X", Serbia has reiterated its demand for normalization of relations with Kosovo.

"Serbia must show true commitment to the values of the European Union. Progress towards membership in the European Union is only possible through reforms in the rule of law and strengthening democratic standards. Serbia must normalize relations with Kosovo," the post says.

The EP has also mentioned the need for fair elections to resolve the political crisis in Serbia.

"Free and fair elections are necessary to resolve the political crisis ," the post further states.

Serbia has not opened any chapters for four years, while the attached photo of the European Parliament in the last post shows that Serbia has been a candidate country for membership in the European Union since 2012. Days earlier, the European Parliament demanded that funds be withheld from Serbia due to problems with the rule of law, while also criticizing it for its relations with Kosovo.

The European Parliament has also criticized Serbia for continuing to strengthen relations with Russia and for pressuring the media. The resolution criticizing Serbia was adopted by the European Parliament with 468 votes in favor, 116 against and 79 abstentions. The permanent representatives of the member states of the European Union (EU) at their meeting in Brussels did not reach an agreement to open Chapter 3 in the process of Serbia's accession negotiations.

The European Commission had recommended opening this chapter group, underlining that Serbia had met the necessary criteria, but according to diplomatic sources, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Finland, Croatia, Bulgaria, the three Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia) and, with reservations, several other countries were against it.
