The same economic problems that gave Mr. Trump victory will make Berisha the winner in the May 11 elections. Can you eat this candy?
Last night an American spoke in a television studio in Tirana. He answered the journalist's questions. We recognized him from what he said. And everything he said was what he heard from Berisha and his people―and, without a doubt, from the most prominent of them, Fatmir, as the "friend" from Washington mentioned him by name.
You, dear readers, know that Fatmir has many friends in Washington, more than supporters who vote for him in Albania. He is the most awaited and most welcome guest, the most valued and beloved in the American capital, the conservative Republican par excellence, from whom the Republican members of the House of Representatives in the American Congress always have something to learn about Albania, the Balkans and Europe. Believe me, I know why I speak and what I say. Fortunately, I know Washington very well, as, unfortunately, I also know Fatmir.
This time, he brought the American to Tirana, Fatmir. Don't be curious to know or learn how much he cost the Albanian Republican Mediu and the Democrat Berisha. It doesn't matter much, although he must have paid a lot. I have known many lobbying companies in Washington closely and I know that no one in that capital is invested for a small amount of money.
All of this, however, is not the most important thing. In both Washington and Tirana, income from foreign consulting expenses is required by law to be declared.
From what I heard last night, the American who came to help Mr. Berisha and his coalition in these elections was completely OUT. I believe he had never even heard of Albania until the day Fatmir "discovered" him and invited him, no doubt at Berisha's request, to come to our country to give advice and to draft a winning strategy for Berisha and Mediu, despite the fact that the latter does not have a party. But what does this matter; for the American Fatmir is the leader of the Albanian Republicans, and the latter are as similar as a drop of water to the Republicans of his country - in a word, MA(merica)GA for MA(lbania)GA.
I was not surprised at all that the American spoke about Berisha the way he did. From what he said, I understood that he neither knew the leader of the Albanian opposition nor does he. He simply does him a service for the money he receives.
He compared Berisha more or less to President Trump for his energy and vision, which will lead the Albanian opposition to victory. He even said that 80-year-old Berisha is more energetic than 60-year-old Rama, since the latter spends all his time in front of a computer screen! He did not mention their similar situations―Mr. Trump has been convicted several times for violating American law, while Mr. Berisha is under investigation by Albanian justice authorities.
Nuk e anashkaloi pyetjen e drejtpërdrejtë të gazetarit për statusin e Berishës si një persona non grata në Shtet e Bashkuara, por përsëriti të njëjtën këngë të Berishës (së cilës Fatmiri i mban iso ditë e natë), se Berisha është shpallur i padëshiruar në Shtetet e Bashkuara nga “admnistrata e korrupruar e presidentit Biden”, në bashkëpunim me “kryeministrin e korruptuar shqiptar Edi Rama”. Sorosin, që Berisha dikur e kishte idhull, nuk e zuri në gojë, por kjo pak rëndësi ka. E dëgjuat ju, shqiptarë? Berishën e ka shpallur të padëshiruar në Amerikë një qeveri e korruptuar e atij vendi. Ajo qeveri dhe vetë z. Biden dhe Sekretari Blinken ishin të korruptuar, por jo Berisha.
Po ç’tha tjetër amerikani? Tha se gjendja e Shqipërisë sot, në pranverën e vitit 2025, është po aq e rëndë sa ishte gjendja ekonomike e Amerikës më 2024. Të njëjtat probleme ekonomike që i dhanë fitoren z. Trump do e bëjnë Berishën fitues në zgjedhjet e 11 majit. E hani dot këtë karamele?
Tha, gjithashtu, se amerikanët e votuan z. Trump për shkak të shpresës që ngjallte ai te njerëzit e thjeshtë dhe, po për këtë arsye, për shkak të shpresës së madhe që ngjall Berisha te shqiptarët e sotëm, këta do votojnë që ai të vijë përsëri në krye të qeverisë. A nuk ju bëjnë këto fjalë të amerikanit të mendoni se ai as që e ka idenë se për kë flet?
Tha, gjithashtu, se Berisha ka më shumë ekspertizë (se Rama, kuptohet), por nuk tha ekspertizë në se, ndërkohë që, pas 35 vitesh në politikë, edhe profesionin e dikurshëm të mjekut e ka harruar (ose e ka harruar profesioni atë), ndërsa Rama, përkundrazi, si piktor që është, vazhdon e pikturon.
Për z. Rama tha se ka qendruar gjatë në postin e kryeministrit, plot 12 vite (dhe tha një të vërtetë), por nuk tha që Berisha ka qenë në krye të shtetit e të qeverisë shqiptare edhe më gjatë, plot 13 vite. Apo këtë nuk ia kanë thënë as vetë Berisha, as Fatmiri i tij.
Amerikani ndoshta mendon se Tirana që ai ka parë (nuk e di nëse ka dalë jashtë saj në dy vizitat e tij), është Tirana që ka bërë z. Berisha, pasi nuk ka as idenë më të vogël se ç’Tiranë bëri Berisha në vitet 1990 të qeverisjes së tij dhe në ç’gjendje e la kryeqytetin tonë (dhe tërë Shqipërinë) kur shqiptarët e rrëzuan me votë.
Amerikani u tha mbrëmë shqiptarëve nga studioja e atij televizioni se me Berishën ata nuk do kenë më arsye të largohen nga vendi i tyre, pasi ai, ndoshta, nuk e di, se në pranverë të 1997-ës rreth 3,000 shqiptarë humbën jetën në marrëzinë kolektive që shkaktoi shembja e firmave piramidale dhe dhjetra mijë shqiptarë morrën arratinë nga varfëria, pasiguria dhe frika. Këto, të jeni të sigurt, nuk ia kanë thënë amerikanit as Berisha, as Fatmiri, siç nuk i kanë thënë gjë as për viktimat e tragjedisë së Gërdecit, që ishte një vepër e kriminale e të dyve.
By not leaving their country, the American told the Albanians last night, they will focus their attention on their family, perhaps not knowing that even when they emigrate, most Albanians keep their families in mind and help them as much as they can.
In conclusion, the American, who does not trust public opinion polls, declared that, this time, "Albanians will not confirm Rama" as prime minister, but will elect Berisha, his client.
It seems that he has not yet understood that the latter is over. This reminds me of an anecdote that Anthony Giddens mentions in his book Turbulent and mighty continent: What future for Europe? A doctor, visiting patients in his ward, says to a nurse standing by a sick person's bed: 'This patient is dead.' 'No, I am not dead,' says the patient. The nurse replies: 'Calm down. The doctor knows better.'
The Socialist Party and Mr. Rama may not win this year's parliamentary elections, which I seriously doubt, but this American and no one else from abroad can make it happen. It is the citizens of this country who will decide who they will vote for this time too.
Closing these lines, I don't know why, instinctively, a name came to mind, James Traficant. In April 2001, two months before the parliamentary elections of that year in Albania, Traficant came to Tirana (with Joe DioGuardi's money) to support Sali Berisha with his infamous "Better dead than red" slogan.
For those who don't know, at the time he was a member of the House of Representatives in the US Congress. A year later he was convicted of ten crimes and spent 7 years in prison. (DITA)
